Reflecting on a World-Rocking Week
A few Friday morning thoughts after a great week of"Rock the World"Vacation Bible School at Shelby Crossings:
*Pink hair is not so bad.Not that I'll be going with it on a permanent basis any time soon, but I think all would agree that I look pretty in pink. Or not. In case you don't have a clue what I'm talking about, the children had a contest this week in their offering for missions: if the boys won, Pastor Ken would dye his hair blue, while a girls win would mean he'd be pink-haired on Friday. And pink it was. The good news is, the dye will wash out. Even better news is, the children collected more than $250 toward missions causes for the Alabama Baptist Children's Home and Bridges of Faith ministries to children.
*This was not your father's VBS! Hearing the music, seeing the dancing and games and drama reminded me how very different our Vacation Bible School at Shelby Crossings is from "back in the day." I never would have imagined, when I was at a Kiss concert at Rickwood Field in 1976, that there would come a day when we'd be using one the melody to one of their songs in Vacation Bible School. We did, and it was fun! Though the methods may have changed a bit over the years, the one constant is that genuine worship of our God and the teaching of His word are as important as ever. I'm confident that He was honored in our VBS this week, and that the children heard the gospel over and over again!
*Rain can be fun. On Wednesday, we had a deluge of rain that could have put a serious damper on our VBS. Instead, the kids had a blast, and our workers came together to make "umbrella trains" to move the children from building to building. There seemed to be so many silly barriers and nuisances that arose during the week, but we overcame, again and again. Flexibility, and faith that God is in control, sure goes a long way.
*Our workers are amazing! We had several dozen adults and youth who spent hours and hours preparing for, and then pulling off a great Bible school. We have seen time and again how blessed we are with such servant-minded people at Shelby Crossings, and nothing better shows that than a week of serving together in Vacation Bible School. You all are such a joy, and I count it such a privilege to serve with you in this amazing church. Thanks for your hard work this week, and in the weeks leading us to this week. My prayer is that eternity will show the fruit of your gift of service.
