Our History
Commissioned the first weekend of December 2000, The Church at Shelby Crossings is the first "daughter church" of The Church at Brook Hills. Our members, along with the members of Brook Hills have entered a covenant relationship and share common beliefs and bylaws.
A Brief History of The Church at Shelby Crossings
- The vision for the beginning of this new church finds its birth in the beginning days of The Church at Brook Hills, where the vision for birthing “Daughter Churches” has been a part of the foundation.
- Fall 1998 - Some members of The Church at Brook Hills sensed God’s leadership to prepare for a Daughter Church in the Pelham/Alabaster area. This possibility was presented to the Pastors of The Church at Brook Hills. There was an agreement to pray and seek God’s desire and His timing for the start of the first Daughter Church.
- January 2000 - The possibility of a Daughter Church in the Pelham/Alabaster area was presented to the Pastors of Brook Hills, and a meeting was scheduled to discuss and pray about the timing.
- February 21, 2000 – Several people met at The Church at Brook Hills to discuss the possibility of starting a new church in the Pelham, Alabaster, Helena and Calera areas of North Shelby County.
- March 2000 – A series of prayer meetings are held.
- March 29, 2000 – The group approaches Pastor Rick Ousley and informs him that they are ready to proceed with the work on a new church.
- August 2000 – The web site “newchurchsoon.org” first appears as an information resource for those interested in starting the new church.
- August 2000 – A group of Christians in the Helena area contacts Randy Hall after learning about the possibility of a new church. This group meets with members of Brook Hills and expresses interest in helping to start the new church.
- August 11, 2000 – A letter is sent to the leaders of The Church at Brook Hills. This letter officially asks for Brook Hills to consider allowing the new church to be a Daughter Church of Brook Hills.
- August 27, 2000 - A public meeting is held at the Pelham Civic Center to discuss the possibility of starting a new church. Over 90 people attend this meeting. 28 people sign a letter asking the leaders of The Church at Brook Hills to sponsor the new church. Support from the Birmingham Baptist Association and Shelby Baptist Association is also requested.
- September 10, 2000 - The pastors of The Church at Brook Hills unanimously offer their support for the new church.
- September 10, 2000 - 147 adults met at the Pelham Civic Center for a time of worship and an information meeting related to the beginning of a new church. Twenty-five families indicate that they are "called and committed" to serve in this new church. Pastor Rick Ousley of The Church at Brook Hills attends this meeting, as do members of the Birmingham Baptist Association and the Shelby County Baptist Association. Pastor Ousley reads a proposed statement of support for the new church.
- September -October 2000 – Three Sunday Evening Worship Services are held at the Pelham Civic Center. Immediately following each of these three worship services, interested individuals were invited to participate in Discovery Sessions related to discovering all that God has prepared for this new church.
- October 2000 - Dr. Jim Shaddix agrees to serve as the interim pastor from December 1st, 2000 to May 1st, 2000.
- October 1, 2000 – The Pastors and Lay Pastors of The Church at Brook Hills attended a meeting with the Interim Leadership Team of the new church. The purpose of that meeting was to discuss and agree on the points of accountability, which will define, and outline the relationship between The Church at Brook Hills and the Daughter Church. Discovery Sessions are held afterwards.
- October 2000 – Valley Intermediate School agrees to let the church use their building as a meeting place.
- November 2000 - Lynn Bullock is announced as the first full-time staff member of this new church.
- November 5, 2000 – The name “The Church at Shelby Crossings” is officially announced.
- November 12, 2000 – A leadership meeting for all adults who are "called and committted to serve" or "ready to attend" is held. This is one of the preliminary steps in establishing The Church at Shelby Crossing’s commitment to the “every member a minister” principle.
- November 18 – 27, 2000 – Meetings are held for various ministry teams (promotions, hospitality, Bible study, worship, child care, etc.)
- December 1 and 3 , 2000 - Commisioning services at Brook Hills for all who will be a part of this new church.
- December 10 and 17, 2000 – The first Sunday morning worship services are held at Valley Intermediate School.
- January 7, 2001 - The first official worship service for The Church at Shelby Crossings. This date will be considered the official start date of the New Church.
- February 2002 - The church voted on 12 acres at the Shelby County Airport Exit off I-65 to be the future location of the church.
- March 2002- The congregation called its first pastor, Mike Satterfield, from Houston, TX to lead The Church at Shelby Crossings.
- January 2003 - The first full-time student pastor, Adam Mitchell, was hired.
- March 2003 - The first body of Elders and Servant Leadership Team were called out from the church body to help lead.
- December 2003- A partnership was formed with the builder of our future church building.
- January 2004 - A partnership was formed with the architect to design our future church building.
- September 2004 - The Ministry Center is relocated to 532 George Roy Parkway one half mile from the 22 acres owned by the church.
- November 2004 - All church activities including worship and Bible study are relocated to 532 George Roy Parkway to place us in the heart of ministry focus for TCASC.
- January 2005 - Due to increasing growth, Shelby Crossings begins an additional worship service on Sunday mornings.
- Currently - God is doing amazing things in the life of The Church at Shelby Crossings. People are discovering who God is and what He desires for their life. People are finding community with others while finding a place to serve and minister to others.
